Organize your notification email template sets

Best practices for naming, grouping, and publishing UpOrder notification email template sets.

Template sets help you keep different versions of your Shopify notification email designs organized in UpOrder.

A template set is a group of notification email templates that belong together. For example, one set might contain your main brand design for Order confirmation, Shipping confirmation, Delivered, Customer account invite, and the other Shopify notifications you customize in UpOrder.

Where template sets live

Open UpOrder in Shopify and go to Notification Templates. Each card on this page is a template set. From here, you can edit a set, publish it, create a new set, or use the card menu for actions such as duplicating or deleting a set.

Use one set for emails that share the same design

In most cases, you do not need a separate template set for every notification email. If your Order confirmation, Shipping confirmation, Refund, Delivered, and other notifications should share the same branding and layout style, keep them in the same template set.

After opening a template set, use the dropdown at the top of the builder to switch between the notification emails inside that set.

When to create a new template set

Create a new template set when you need a genuinely different group of designs. Common examples include:

  • A seasonal or promotional design, such as Holiday 2026.

  • A draft redesign that you want to build without changing your current live set.

  • A different brand, market, language, or customer segment.

  • A test set for trying a new layout, discount strategy, or product recommendation setup.

Naming template sets

Use names that make the purpose and status obvious. For example:

  • Live - Main Brand

  • Draft - Spring Sale 2026

  • Test - Product Recommendations

  • B2B - Wholesale Notifications

Avoid vague names like New Template Set, Test, or Copy once you have more than one set. Clear names make it much easier to know which set should be edited or published.

Before publishing

Before publishing a template set, open the important notification emails in that set and confirm the content, branding, discounts, product recommendations, footer, and test emails look correct. Publishing updates the Shopify notification templates for the selected set, so make sure you are publishing the set you intend to use.
