Do I have to include a mailing address in my Shopify notification emails?

In most cases, we recommend keeping a valid mailing address in your Shopify notification email footer.

Email compliance rules vary by country, region, and email type. Shopify notification emails are often transactional, but many UpOrder templates also include marketing content such as discounts, product recommendations, navigation links, or promotional messaging. When a notification includes promotional content, mailing-address and other anti-spam requirements may apply.

In the United States, the FTC's CAN-SPAM guidance says commercial email must include a valid physical postal address. This can be your current street address, a post office box registered with the U.S. Postal Service, or a private mailbox registered with a commercial mail receiving agency.

What should I use?

Use a business mailing address that you are comfortable showing to customers. If you do not want to use a home address, consider a registered P.O. Box or business mailbox where available.

Where does this appear in UpOrder?

UpOrder templates can include your store address in the email footer. Review your footer and store address settings before publishing templates to Shopify, especially if you have removed or edited footer content.

This article is general guidance, not legal advice. If you are unsure what your business must include, check the rules that apply to your customers and location or speak with a qualified legal advisor.
