How do I revert my email templates back to Shopify's default version?

Restore a Shopify notification email template to Shopify's default version.

If you want to stop using a customized notification email, or if a Shopify notification template has an issue, you can revert that template back to Shopify's default version from your Shopify admin.

This only changes the notification template inside Shopify. It does not delete your templates in UpOrder, and it does not uninstall UpOrder. If you publish an UpOrder template to Shopify again later, Shopify will use the newly published UpOrder version.

Before you revert a template

Reverting to Shopify's default version replaces the current notification template content. If you might need the current code again, copy the existing email body code somewhere safe before you revert it.

Shopify notes that reverting a notification template changes the template content only. Store-level email branding settings, such as your notification logo and colors, are not changed.

How to revert a Shopify notification template to default

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Notifications.

  2. Click the relevant notification category. For most customer-facing order and shipping emails, use Customer notifications.

  3. Click the notification template that you want to revert.

  4. Click Revert to.

  5. Select Default.

  6. Click Save.

Shopify may also offer a Previous option. Choose Default if you want to restore Shopify's original default notification template.

You can also review Shopify's current instructions here: Revert to the previous or default version of an email template.
