Why isn't my POS Exchange V2 Receipt showing correctly in Shopify preview?

What to check when Shopify preview does not show the expected UpOrder POS exchange receipt template.

If your POS exchange receipt is not showing what you expect in Shopify's preview, first make sure you are working with the current POS Exchange V2 Receipt notification.

The older POS exchange receipt template is no longer the supported Shopify template in UpOrder. In UpOrder, use the POS Exchange V2 Receipt template instead.

Where to check the template

  1. Open UpOrder in Shopify.

  2. Go to Notification Templates.

  3. Open the template set you want to review.

  4. Use the template dropdown at the top of the builder and select POS Exchange V2 Receipt.

  5. Save your changes, then publish or copy the updated template into Shopify.

In Shopify, the matching customer notification is under Settings > Notifications > Customer notifications > Point of Sale > POS exchange V2 receipt.

Preview is useful, but it is not the whole test

Shopify's notification editor can preview unsaved changes and send a test email. Use that preview to confirm the general layout, branding, and code changes.

A POS exchange receipt depends on exchange-specific POS order and transaction data. Because of that, a Shopify preview or generic test email might not prove every part of the receipt content. For the most reliable final check, test with a real Shopify POS exchange and send the receipt from that exchange.

Shopify POS exchanges require an eligible POS setup. Shopify's current documentation says exchanges are available for locations with a Shopify POS Pro subscription.

If Shopify preview still shows the wrong version

  • Confirm you are viewing POS exchange V2 receipt, not the older POS exchange template.

  • Confirm the template was saved in UpOrder.

  • Publish or copy the updated UpOrder template into Shopify again.

  • Refresh Shopify, reopen the POS exchange V2 receipt notification, and preview or send another test email.

  • If you manually pasted code into Shopify, save the Shopify notification after pasting, then reopen the notification and preview again.

If the Shopify preview looks correct but the receipt from a real POS exchange still does not, contact UpOrder support with your store URL, the template set name, the Shopify notification name, and an example POS exchange order or receipt.
