How do I change the currency in my transactional emails?

How currency displays in UpOrder notification emails and which copy needs manual updates.

UpOrder pulls dynamic money values from Shopify when Shopify sends your notification emails. That means values such as item prices, subtotals, taxes, shipping, totals, and discounts use the currency from the Shopify order.

What you see in the builder

The UpOrder builder uses sample order data while you are editing a template. Because of this, you may see placeholder prices or currency values in the builder preview. Those placeholders are replaced with real Shopify order data when the notification email is sent to a customer.

What you may need to update manually

Any static text that you type into your email template will not change automatically. For example, if your discount copy says "Save $10" or "Get $5 off your next order," you should update that text to match the currency you want customers to see.

For example, if your store sells in pounds sterling, update your static discount copy to say GBP or £.

Using multiple currencies

If you use Shopify Markets or otherwise sell in multiple currencies, we recommend testing with an actual order in the target market or currency. Dynamic order values should come from Shopify, but any static copy in your template should be reviewed and updated manually if needed.
